It’s no secret; I have a lot of favourite exercises. Luckily this week’s blog is about the second favourite on my list – Pressing. To be honest, for me it’s specifically Clean & Pressing which really gets the smile on my face. It is just an awesome feeling of power and strength when I can press a heavy weight into the air. It’s a compound move which uses almost every muscle in my body, gets my heart pumping and it strengthens my core which helps to prevent my lower back pain – what more could a girl want! And here’s the thing, why should women not be afraid of doing presses?

We’ve had previous blogs which have talked about how women can’t naturally become the incredible she-hulk; we’ve talked about women, weights and their impact on muscle, joint and bone health; so now let’s focus on some other female related reasons to press those weights!

Full Press Ups

How many females do you know who can’t do a full press up, or do a “girl” pressup i.e. not on their toes. 8 out of 10 times it’s simply down to poor technique making them afraid to try it. But by adding bench pressing into your gym routine, you will strengthen the muscles which will enable you to do press ups! Wouldn’t it be an amazing rush if someone said to you “drop and give me 20” and you did just that? Imagine their surprise! BOOM!

Running Efficiency

Pressing will help to improve your running form or posture. It will help prevent slumping, will keep those shoulders relaxed, will keep your head up looking forward and give those arms power to swing efficiently. If you want to run faster, isn’t it worth a try?

Sun’s Out, Flesh out

It’s strappy (or strapless) dress, vest top and bikini weather. If you’re going to be exposing your upper back, shoulders, upper chest and arms – you want to do so with confidence! You don’t get a body like Andrea Brazier’s without pressing some weights!
