Walks Around Leeds

Earlier this week Kate, Jenny and I went on a ramble around Eccup in advance of our Residential Boot Camp weekend in July. We were there to scout out an appropriate walk for our hike on one of the days. This got me thinking what walking routes were available in Leeds, so as luck would have it, here are some walks around Leeds!
Although getting into the gym or powering through a run or bike ride is great for your training, getting out and go for a walk is also a great way to keep on top of your fitness and can often be more sociable too.
Scrambling up hillsides, trekking across fields or strolling around lakes its good to get out and soak up the sun (when it is here!) and breathe in the country air. The other great thing about walking is you can get the children involved on a weekend so there is no excuse.
Here are some routes in the Leeds area a lot of them cover bridal paths and old railway lines so are scenic and safe.
Shorter Routes:
Pudsey Link Bridleway – A six-mile, linear bridleway between Tong village and Apperley Bridge.
Wyke Beck Valley Way – A walking and cycling route following the Wyke Beck Valley between Temple Newsam and Roundhay Park
The Temple Newsam Bridlepath – A six-mile circular route around Temple Newsam Estate
The Wetherby Railway Path – A disused railway cycle route linking Wetherby to Spofforth and Thorp Arch.
The Rothwell Greenway – A disused railway route running between Lofthouse, Robin Hood and Rothwell.
The Linesway – A three-mile long disused railway between Garforth and Allerton Bywater
Meanwood Valley Trail – A seven-mile walking route through the Meanwood Valley to Golden Acre Park.
Fulneck Loop and Calverley Loop – circular bridleway routes through attractive countryside in Pudsey.
Longer Distances:
Leeds Country Way – A 62 mile circular walking route around Leeds.
Trans Pennine Trail – Leeds-Wakefield section.
Dales Way Link – A 19 mile feeder route from Leeds to Ilkley.
Ebor Way – A 70 mile walk from Helmsley to Ilkley via York. The route passes through the northern part of the Leeds district.
As the weather is (hopefully) getting nicer get on your walking boots and get out and about exploring some beautiful scenic walks!
