training motivation

At motive8, as personal trainers,  we believe that if you plan and keep track of your nutrition and exercise, you are one step closer to getting the results you want. Documenting your food makes you accountable for what you’re eating and drinking and documenting your progress in your training sessions be a really positive experience and provide training motivation.

Different people approach their fitness journey in different ways but one thing I have noticed that helps most people is logging their progress not only in terms of food and training but also in life goals. One of my clients is currently working hard towards dropping below the 20 stone mark and is really finding it beneficial to document the milestones she is reaching from being able to walk up her flat stairs easier, fitting into a dress size smaller or simply sleeping better. Looking back and being able to look at that progress helps with motivation further down the line and and gives the confidence to be able to set larger goals with smaller milestones along the way.

As well as logging goals and targets, I would also recommend taking photographs of your progress. Whilst you might not relish the opportunity to take a photo of yourself in your undies, I guarantee you won’t regret it when you see the progress and change in your body shape.

Being fit and healthy is a lifestyle change which often takes time. Some of your goals may seem a million miles away but when you log your progress made so far, you will soon realise this may not be the case. Show your personal trainer your food and exercise diaries too as they may be able to suggest small, tailored changes with your nutrition, exercise and goal setting which will mean you’re hitting those goals sooner rather than later. Be proud of what you’re achieving and log your progress and achievements.
