Total Warrior 2018
A year on and once again motive8 North and BTRS teamed up to take on the 12 kilometers and 30 obstacles that stood in the way of them and Total Warrior 2018 glory. Thirteen motivated individuals threw their hats in and battled through the beaming Summer sun. It was the perfect setting to get wet, muddy, and expel some energy. The brave warriors that took part were, Phil and his 3 amigos, Matt, Simon, Helen, Carl, Rebecca, Louise, Kay, Kate and myself.
Ready, Set, Go…
As the siren went off, the warriors bolted into action, forming two groups, parting the yellow smoke and straight into the hill sprints. The day could not have gone better; the mixture of off-road running, climbing walls, wading through mud, jumping fire, carrying logs, and monkeying around on bars. It was a blur of excitement, team spirit, and thorough enjoyment.
As trainers myself and Kate were so proud of the clients who “volunteered”. These (self)chosen few certainly did not let us down and put on an extremely impressive show of courage, grit, and determination. Despite many carrying or picking up aches and pains, the drive to carry on never faltered. Each and every one of the guys who took to the course battled on and did their bit to make sure the team got through it TOGETHER!
There were displays of great team-work pulling each other over walls, out of cement-like mud, and picking each other up when our feet failed us. The pride we had in crossing that line together was immense. The time to complete it was irrelevant, what was the real achievement was the sheer team-effort that was clear to everyone. Nobody was left behind. This is what made it such a great day, and for such a great cause.
The Vigorous Veterans!
Out of our team of 13, a few would (on paper) be classed as of the older or veteran category. This was merely subjective and the 3 people that (apparently) fell into this category certainly did not look like it. They took everything that was thrown at them and actually finished in the top portion for their “veteran” category. We could all take a little note of these guys performance and adopt even an ounce of their ambition and enthusiasm we would smash anything life throws our way.
Will we be doing it again next year I hear you ask…to be confirmed…but in the words of Matt:
“Been there, done that, and got another t-shirt…no more!”
