Tired legs!
A Day In The Life of a PT
Posted on April 15, 2014 by Jenny Cromack
It’s only 6am and my day is already off to a flyer…..up at 515am this morning ready to start the day with mushrooms, kale and eggs……mmmmmm……have I ever told you how much I love kale?!
Today is going to be a busy day, I have three clients back to back from 630am this morning, one of which is my client who ran the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday so I’m really excited to hear about her run! She absolutely smashed it, I tracked her and her splits were really even so it looks like she ran a great, controlled run and she did it in 4:07 which is an amazing time for someone’s first marathon…..especially someone who when I first started training her would only run on a treadmill for about 5k! Did you watch it? Did it fill you with inspiration? Are you going to enter next year….go on do it! I know that every year when I watch it, it feels me with inspiration and when I was on my run on Sunday if I ever wanted to slow down I reminded myself of all those people who would be working hard in the marathon and that kept me going.
After I’ve trained my first three personal training clients this morning I’ll then be doing my own strength session in the gym. The last two days I’ve done some hard runs, Sunday was a hilly 11miler, yesterday was a 8 miler which included 10 x 2 min hard intervals with 1 min recovery – this was a tough sessions and included myself ‘having words’ with myself before the last two intervals. I ran on the canal yesterday, which was busy as the sunshine had brought lots of people out either running, walking, fishing or cycling. I normally find running on the canal pretty boring, but it’s perfect for when you need a flat route for doing interval training.
I’ve got pretty tired legs today, however I can’t complain as I’m sure there’ll be tens of thousands of people who ran the marathon who have much more tired legs than me! I’m sure that my workout will sort them out though and I’ll be including a good foam rolling session during my workout to help ease any tension in my little old tired legs! As I start to step things up for my own marathon training my grid (foam roller) will become my best friend!
As I’ve been increasing my training intensity for the past few weeks I’ve been paying more attention to making sure I get some good quality carbs and protein into my post workout meals. I plan my meals anyway so it’s not normally an issue, but it’s always good to review things and see if there is anything I can improve to optimise my performance. Yesterday’s lunch was a gorgeous mozerella and avocado salad with bulgar wheat. Today’s lunch is a quinoa salad with roasted veg and avocado (avocado is right up there with kale for one of my favourite foods).
I’ve got another personal training client before lunch today, then I’ll be hitting the lap top to blast out some admin work before my final few clients. This evening I’ve got a couple of group personal training sessions, I love my group sessions, they are always lots of fun and it’s good to see the people in the group encouraging each other when the going gets tough! My night finishing with a consultation for a new personal training client, I love doing consultations with new people, it’s great to educate them about how we can help them achieve their results and see the sparkle in their eye when they realise that something they may think isn’t possible is actually possible to achieve.
After work it will be home for a nice vegetarian curry which I prepared last night. As I knew I’d be home late tonight I wanted something which I could just warm up when I got in, no hassle so I can then hopefully chill out a bit before bed time and doing it all again on Wednesday! Not that I’m complaining, I love my job!
So, there’s my day all planned out. Have you planned yours? I know we harp on about planning all of the time but I can reiterate enough how important it is to achieving your goals and keeping you nice and healthy!
