Harpreet has being training at motive8 North since mid November, I think she will be the first to tell you she wasn’t too fond of the gym environment. When you exercise on a regular basis it can be easy to forget what an intimidating environment to be in if you’re not used to it and if you’re starting without a lot of exposure to ‘gym culture’ the first few sessions can be intense, you really have no idea what to expect.

I think, in true Harpreet spirit, she dived in at the deep end and started personal training. Harpreet is an extremely hard working individual, I’ve never seen her give less that 100% to every element of her training. To date she has lost 18lbs (almost 1 1/2 stone) and is well on her way to achieving her goals! 18lbs in 13 weeks is an excellent rate of weight loss, and one that can be maintained. All too often individuals throw themselves into extreme diets where long term progress can be rare.

One of the key areas we addressed in relation to Harpreet’s nutrition was breakfast as, like most young professionals, she is always on the move. Focusing on improving this element of her daily nutrition has been a critical component in ensuring cravings are reduced, energy levels are more consistent allowing her to train more frequently, and finally meets the protein requirements to meet the demands of her training. Although she may not be there 100% yet in relation to her breakfast consumption, she is certainly improving.

The notion that anyone can come and simply transform overnight is ridiculous, it is a long term process that requires fundamental changes in lifestyle and habits. Harpeet encompasses this philosophy one hundred percent. Every week she takes a step towards her goals, moving from improvements such as originally not exercising, to training herself at home and now to training by herself in a commercial gym. This is something that I don’t think she would have believed she would have been able to do 3 months ago!

She is becoming incredibly strong in her fundamental movement patterns, squatting, pressing and pulling which definitely carry over into her day to day life, whether it be wrestling with patients teeth or simply carrying a whole load of shopping across the city centre.

It’s a real pleasure training Harpreet, shes a great hard working individual and its only a matter of time until she hits her long term goals! Keep up the great work and sorry about the constant questions about teeth! (I love asking Harpreet about her job as a dentist!)
