People Watching
A Day In The Life of a PT

As always this has been a busy week at the motive8 personal training studio in Leeds. We’ve had quite a few new people start personal training with us this week, it’s great taking on new clients and educating them and working with them to achieve their goals.
I always enjoy delivering my personal training sessions, after all, that is why I got into the industry. I know that ultimately we are working with our personal training clients to help them achieve their long term goals, but I also find the ‘here and now’ stuff interesting. For example, it’s interesting to watch people during their sessions. Some people suffer in silence as they are put through their paces, some people look like they are loving every minute of it, whilst others just moan or hurl abuse at me throughout the session or give me the ‘look’! I’d like to think the abuse is only in jest, I know I’m a bit of a task master but I’m not that bad….honest! The best bit is the look on people’s faces towards the end of the session. Everyone always walks out their personal training sessions with a smile on their faces. Maybe the smile is just a smile of relief but I like to think that it’s because the endorphins are flowing, knowing they have pushed themselves and have made another step towards their goals.
As normal I’ve had lots of early starts and late finishes this week, so I’ve had to be uber-organised with planning my meals. I bought a new recipe book and new food magazine this weekend to give me some inspiration to try some meals so I’ve tried a few things like making my own veggie burgers which were pretty tasty, I’ve used these more as snacks than to go with a meal and also a tomato and mushroom dahl…..not the greatest at first but once I added more spices it was pretty tasty!
So far my training has gone well this week too, today was the toughest session 6 x 1 mile intervals on the canal. The last two intervals were hard work but I used my inspiration today from my clients I had trained this morning, I know I had pushed them out of their comfort zones and 1 mile intervals are no different for me….but, I felt like slowing down, I thought of my morning sessions and kept driving forwards. I also use a technique when I run where I count my breaths. I use this in a variety of ways, when I’m just doing a steady run I’ll just count my breaths to keep me at a particular pace, however when I’m doing intervals I count 1-100, 2-100, 3-100, etc, etc , the 100 is there to keep me focused on giving the interval one hundred percent until it is time to start my recovery.
I had a good session on the foam roller when I got back from my run, so I’m hoping my legs will be not too sore tomorrow ready for a strength session in the gym!
