Old School Kettlebell Circuit

Kettlebells have come a long way since I first starting teaching them. Gone are the days where class numbers are so small that every participant can have a single kettlebell each, and let’s face it, we’re stronger now – one kettlebell may not even be enough! It’s just an amazing feeling to see how far everyone has come. So in a week that saw some old school rock being mixed with new rock in spin and weights being added to what was previously a full body warm up to make a nice little HIIT Resistance routine; I decided that just as the latest fashion trends are based on the past (brace yourself, the 90s style is coming back apparently!), I would revisit some of my first ever kettlebell routines and add some new flavour to them – so here it is, a new look at an old school kettlebell circuit!
Ideally you need 3 kettlebells for this routine: 2 the same weight for upper body, and a higher weight for lower body. However, as I like to do my kettlebell circuit twice, you can use just 2 kettlebells (1 for upper and 1 for lower). You also need a step, box or bench.
Each exercise is 45seconds long and try to keep the breaks between exercises to an absolute minimum.
It’s structured this way for lower body, upper body and cardio; plus I love having 2 pressing exercises straight after each other :0)
- Weighted Step Ups (if you have two kettlebells, have one in each hand)
- Tricep Extension
- Box Jumps (no kettlebell!)
- Squat & Press
- Double Handed Clean & Press (obviously do one side first if you only have 1 KB)
- Straddle Jumps
- Squat & Upright Row
- Double Handed Bicep Curls (as above if you only have 1 KB)
Have Fun!
