With our posture seminar making it’s debut next week (there are still spaces left on the 20th!), I started to think about why people would come to a seminar about posture, and what it is that they would want to know. For a lot of people it’s about checking their existing posture and knowing how to correct it or prevent bad posture. For others it’s about pain relief. One thing I’m going to talk about is those little exercises you can do to help your posture and alleviate potential pain. So as a little preview, here are some office stretches to do at your desk to help with posture.
Trust me, these can be done discretely! We don’t want your colleagues to think you’re choreographing a little dance routine at your desk! Ideally you want to do these throughout the day – ONCE IS DEFINITELY NOT ENOUGH.
- Reach Up – hands together and stretch up towards the roof
- Knee Hug – bring one knee up at a time to your chest. For extra brownie points rotate your ankles too
- Torso Rotation – sit on the edge of the chair. Cross your legs and turn to face the back of the chair
- Chest Stretch – clasp your hands together behind the chair or your back, push your shoulders back and your chest forward
- Shoulder Roll – really exaggerate the movement
- Stand Up – take regular breaks, get up and move around
Try these performing these office stretches to do at your desk at regular intervals throughout the day and not only will it lead to improvements in your posture and mobility over time, but you will also feel more energised!
