If someone had told me this time last year that 2014 would be such a massive year for me I probably would have laughed. I have been fortunate to buy and move into my first house and in September I got engaged so 2015 is going to be a busy year for me! In a few more months I will have worked for motive8 for 2 years, wow…. it’s actually crazy to think about that, time has flown but it has been another fantastic year! So it’s the start of 2015 and like many of you I’m thinking about what New Year resolutions I can make.
A New Year resolution is defined as being a promise that you make to yourself to start to do something good or stop doing something bad on the first day of the year. If I was to take this definition literally then I would honestly say that I don’t set New Year resolutions now! However, it was different when I was younger the popular one being to stop arguing with my sisters so much, safe to say these did not last very long!
The last few years I have approached January and the start of a new year with goals in which I want to achieve that year. In 2013 after finishing university and saving enough money to stay away from home a small village in the middle of nowhere and move to Leeds my goal was to find a good personal training position and build up some clients. In 2014 after working for motive8 for almost a year and building up my client portfolio my goal was to continue saving and purchase a house.
In April 2014 I decided that I wanted to raise money for a charity very close to my heart (TOM Foundation) and I wanted to do something different that had the wow factor in September 2014 I completed my challenge of flipping a 75kg tractor tyre 1000 times in 3 hours 47 minutes. This for me was a massive highlight of my 2014 and something I am extremely proud of.
I am happy to say that as 2015 begins, I have achieved all of my targets and more. I am, however, the type of person who is constantly seeking to challenge my self from a work and personal point of view. I am extremely motivated by setting my self challenges throughout the year and I think this is extremely important to ensure that you get the most out of your life. So whether you call them New Year resolutions, challenges or goals here are mine for 2015.
One step further for 2015!
Charity Challenge
By flipping the tyre 1000 times I raised a lot of money for TOM foundation . The money raised really has helped to educate young people about the consequences about dangerous driving. The charity has been running 10 years and to celebrate this and to recognize the anniversary of Toms passing I want to push my self harder and give myself a challenge that blows the Tyre Flip out the water.
This challenge will tick both the training and personal aspects of my life I want to have something to train towards and push my body hard and having that goal and ambition to succeed and support something close to my heart is a double winner!
Many people have asked me if I will be doing another challenge and what will it be? I have a few ideas that could be great so watch this space!
Work Goals
I am so fortunate that my work life is also my passion; very few people get to say that what they do for a living is what they love. Motive8 North is a fantastic company that is helping my grow from a personal and professional point. As I mentioned setting goals throughout the year is crucial to keep your eye on the ball. In 2015 I will be completing my level 4 Nutrition and Obesity Management Qualification and Advanced Personal Training Certificate, knowledge that will help me develop further as a personal trainer.
I really look forward to continuing to help my current and future clients not only achieve their goals but also gain knowledge about how appropriate training and healthy eating can improve their quality of life.
Towards the end of this year I have began doing wellbeing seminars to local company’s this is something I have really enjoyed and hope to focus on more in 2015
Personal Goals
My family and friends have always been extremely important to me however over the last year I think it has become apparent to me just how much they have helped me get were I am. Although I work long hours and love my job my aim this year is to really ensure that I make the most of spending time with family and friends, I have organized a number of get together in the coming months with friends and in October 2015 75 family members will be getting together, something I am really looking forward to!
What ever you have planned for 2015 eat healthy, train hard and make the most of it!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
I look forward to being part of your new years resolutions in the gym!
