It’s the time of year when people will be thinking about their goals for 2016 and their New Year Resolutions. Here is an insight into what the motive8 North personal training team are hoping to achieve in 2016.

I don’t make New Year resolution, I don’t see the point in them really, if something needs drastically changing why wait for the start of a New Year? It’s the same mentality as ‘starting next Monday’ and constantly putting things off. Ultimately if you want to achieve something you’ll start there and then, not wait for the “magic” of the 1st of January.

I have three resolutions this year.

Health – get back to 12 1/2 stone and 10-12% body fat. I will achieve this by doing 3 weights sessions, 1-2 HIIT sessions and recording and monitoring my nutrition

PhD – Hit my 35 hours a week work. To do this I need to prioritise my time and monitor and record my daily tasks.

Life – I’d like to spend more time with my family in 2016. If I can manage my time as above I can block out my time for this at the weekend.

I don’t really make New Year Resolutions, yes I have goals and targets, but they aren’t resolutions…..my goal has been pretty much the same throughout my life – to give 100% to what I do, and be the best I can be at whatever I do. At the moment this goal pretty much focuses on my home life (enjoying my spare time with my husband, friends and family), career (building a successful business) and my training goal (trying to be the best I can at triathlons and finally crack front crawl!). Within these goals, I have specific goals I want to achieve but the main thing, I guess, is that I don’t resolve at New Year to focus on these, they are just part of my life.

I’m not knocking New Year Resolutions, they are like many things in life, you’ve got to know what motivates you. If it’s the start of a New Year which makes you reflect on the past year and focus on what lies ahead then setting New Year Resolutions will work a treat for you. Other people constantly evaluate their progress and set goals throughout the year.

Personally, I take some time out each week to reflect on my goals and what I need to change, do more of, do less of, to achieve these goals…..I see myself as a work in progress!

Be fit for, during and after 40! It’s no secret that it’s that “big 4-0” next year. But I not only want to be in the best shape I can be, but also the fittest and most injury free I can! It doesn’t slow down or go down hill at 40 and I’m going to prove that!
Not only will I train to give the most I can during my classes, but I’m going to train for me! This is the year I conquer pull ups! I’m seriously looking at bringing the joy of aerial hoops to people…..but ultimately I’d like to enter an event of some sort, but as I’m trying to stay injury free that may not be a good idea…. watch this space!

I’ve never been a big fan on New Years resolutions. I’m not sure why but I think a lot of it is probably based from the women who use to live next to me when I was growing up, every year she would pop round for a brew and tell us all about her resolutions and then not stick to any!

I do, however, love planning and setting myself goals from a work and social perspective. I wouldn’t call them my New Year resolutions but here are my goals for 2016.

2016 is going to be a big year for me I get married in May so a few of my weekends at the beginning of the year will be taken up with appointments with the hope of having everything sorted with months to go so I can kick back and enjoy the excitement rather than be one of those Psycho Bride-zillas

In terms of work, 2016 will see me finish a course that I am currently studying for and as always I have my clients goals and aspirations to work towards so I am looking forward to getting stuck into some great training sessions with them!

My first training goal is to be able to go from the kneeling position onto my feet in one jump at the moment i fail a lot of the time and it’s not smooth so it’s my mission to achieve it!

Secondly I want to be able to improve my press ups – I can do full press ups but getting above 75 would be an awesome achievement.

Have a great New Year and here’s to a healthy and happy 2016!
