Simon Singleton

Our member of the month for August was Simon Singleton. Simon joined the motive8 family in January 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. His initial goal was to ‘lose a few kilos’ and he has now lost an amazing 12 kilos (in old money that’s almost 2 stone!)

motive8 member of the month

Take a read below about his motive8 experience.

How long have you been a member of the motive8 gym?
I joined in January 2016
Why do enjoy training at the motive8 gym?
It’s a non-pretentious gym, with no self obsessed members unlike some other gyms and most importantly a friendly and cheerful team and fellow members.
What was your goal when you started at the gym?
To lose a few kilo’s, improve my overall fitness and improve my upper body definition especially my shoulders and chest – get rid of my 51 year old slump.
What is your current goal?
To maintain what I’ve already achieved (paranoid I’ll lose it), maintain current weight but further improvements in upper body definition. And I still need to break 1m 20sec for 400m on that damn rowing machine, even if it kills me!
What’s your biggest accomplishment since you have been training? Lost 12 kilos , down from 91kg to 79kg and I can run 5k once again. Diet has been an equally important factor, bread and sugar (nearly) out and water beats tea and beer, well most of the time. Body shape not gone unnoticed by friends and family, to quote ‘what’s happened to you, are they abs?!’
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of making that first step to being fitter and healthier? Buy some expensive trainers as you will feel guilty not using them! More seriously, plan when you can put aside an hour even 2 or 3 times a week. It’s too easy to cop out with the excuse I’m too busy plus you can feel smug and virtuous that you’ve made the effort, it pays off!
