I’m Beginning To Like Cycling!

A Day In The Life of a PT

Did you have a good bank holiday, I did! In addition to my usual my weekend routine such as working , washing, tidying, etc I also saw Prince in concert. He was amazing, I can safely say that to date this is the best concert I have ever been to! If I can move like that when I’m in my fifties I’ll be happy…..well if I could move like that full stop I’d be happy :O)

I also spent the weekend reviewing my running plan and trying to develop my love for cycling…..I think we may be making progress! I went cycling on Monday evening, Bank Holiday Monday meant there were hardly any cars on the road and I also chose a route which took me towards Eccup and Bramhope so a lot more pleasant. Yes, me and cycling seem to be growing fonder of each other! I wouldn’t say I love it yet, but I think I’m beginning to like cycling. It still won’t replace running as being my number one activity but I can understand why people enjoy it, it was quite addictive watching the distance on my GPS watch increase during the run! I also discovered that cyclists are a friendly bunch too…..I’d stopped at one point as I thought my chain had come off and two guys who cycled past me asked if I was ok which was nice. As a runner I always say hello to other runners, dog walkers, cyclists, etc but I’m growing increasing frustrated by those who don’t bother answering back. Admittedly if I’m doing intervals then I can’t speak but I still normally manage a nod or a small raise of the hand to acknowledge other runners, it makes you feel like part of a community.

As much as I’m doing a triathlon , running still has to be number one priority as I’m doing a marathon in October…..so back to aerobic training and long runs for me on my plan. I’m secretly looking forward to clocking up the miles on my long runs. My run on Sunday didn’t start as planned, I was doing a 13 mile run, which I did end up completing but my calfs were still so sore from 1k intervals on Friday that at 4 miles I nearly stopped and cut my run short (not like me at all). However, after some stretching and rethinking my route so it involved more hills (running uphill and on the flat hurt less than running down hill) I decided to continue running and I was so happy that I did. It ended up being quite a pleasant run and I made it back just before the heavens opened!

Thankfully my calves have fully recovered now, although I did spend a lot of Sunday walking in a funny manner, but yes all fully back to strength now ready to tackle another 8 miles tonight!
