Group Personal Training
A Day In The Life of a PT
Posted on February 26, 2014 by Jenny Cromack
Whilst I was driving to work at 5:45am this morning I reflected back on my day yesterday. My clients had all worked their socks off, right from my first session at 6:30am, to the last session at 7:30pm, but this wasn’t just the common factor of the day as my clients always work hard! The common theme was that most of my sessions yesterday and in fact today were group personal training sessions.
Over the past couple of days I’ve done around 10 personal training sessions ranging from my marathon runner, my Wednesday Wellness Group, lots of females who want to get lean and strong but the majority of my sessions have been group personal training sessions.
I love training all of my clients whether 1:1 or group personal training, but I really love the buzz of a good group training session. I hope my groups agree, but I believe I deliver the same level of service to all of my group clients as I do my 1:1 clients. They all have their own programmes and nutritional plans to follow and I’m always hassling them, I mean contacting and encouraging them, to make sure they are on track.
The beauty of group personal training is that you encourage each other when the other can’t be bothered to exercise and it’s cheaper whilst still having the same expert advice and motivation from a personal training. Happy Days! If anyone ever fancied getting a PT but was put off by the cost I’d say find yourself a friend and do it with them!
So, what else have I been up to for the past couple of days……well when I last blogged I said I thought my legs would be sore from Chris Baird’s circuit class on Monday. And boy were they!! The first two miles of my run yesterday were painful…..I must have looked like a new born foal whilst I was running and I was cursing Chris Baird a lot! My nick name from some is The Angry Runner (I’ll explain another time) and yesterday I bet I looked really angry as my glutes screamed out whilst I was running! Today’s training was another strength day so a 30 minute total body workout which compromised of 4 compound exercises per circuit, 8-12 reps, 4 sets of each circuit. I did 3 of these circuits followed by a 15 minute core and plyometric session. Back to running tomorrow…..hopefully my glutes will have recovered by then!
I’ve had 1:1’s with all of the team this week. I love the motive8 North team, hand on heart, I’ve seriously never met a bunch of people so passionate about what they do and delivering the highest standards. The studio is always buzzing whenever they are around and they have such an amazing rapport with their clients which is key to achieving results. In fact, as I left the studio tonight, Kate was putting another group personal training session through their paces! And whilst they were all working hard, there was lots of laughter going on and people enjoying working out……something I love to see! (If only I looked like I was enjoying it instead of looking like an angry runner!).
As I write this I’m sat on the train to London, I work with the personal training department for motive8 Group Ltd, so will spending time with the teams there tomorrow and Friday. We have an early start with a 8am meeting in central London hence the reason why I’m on the train at this time of night (9:50pm!). We all know how sleep is important to achieve our body composition goals but there is a man sat behind me talking loudly on his phone so the whole train can hear him so sleep isn’t possible! Maybe if I give him the angry runner’s stare he will shut up and let me get some shut-eye!
Night, night x
