Government Recommended Amount of Physical Activity
A Day In The Life of a PT

On a Tuesday evening I have a group personal training session at one of our corporate clients. After this I normally have personal training clients at our Marshall Court studio. This evening I when I walked into the studio Chris had a boot camp in full swing, Lucy was waiting to put some clients through their paces and the gym was full of people working hard.
One of my personal training clients comes to boot camp and at the end of the session she walked over to me and said ‘I bet you love walking into your gym seeing all of these people working out’, apparently I’d walked into the gym with a big smile on my face. We hear so much in the media about how not enough people don’t get enough exercise and whilst I agree this is probably true, there are a lot of us who train hard and get more than the government recommended levels of physical activity. By the way, do you know what the government recommended amount of physical activity is? It is at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, or 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day. Do you get that amount per week? It makes me proud that the team of amazing personal trainers at motive8 North play an important part in encouraging people to stay fit and active.
It does get me thinking what is the difference between those people who do lots of exercise and those who don’t. Whilst as personal trainers our job is to motivate people to become and remain active, many of our clients who contact us are already exercising when they first start training with us. I think the key difference between those who are active and those who aren’t active is there own level of motivation and desire to achieve a goal……and often this goal doesn’t have to be something such as running a 10k, losing a stone, it can simply be because they want to be healthier and fitter and just feel good about themselves…..and if that couldn’t be the best reason to exercise then I don’t know what is!
