Have You Got What It Takes?
A Day In The Life of a PT

How has your week been? I hope it’s been good. Mine has been great! Do you remember a couple of blogs ago I mentioned I had been trying new foods well I’m still at it and I’m loving the variety in my meals.
Training has gone well this week so far, my legs are a bit tender today after some 10 x 1k reps this morning. I’ve also given cycling another go but I can happily say that I much prefer running….give me my two feet over two wheels any day! I’m not sure if it’s because the times I’ve been cycling I’ve been on busy roads so I’m more worried about the cars than enjoying the ride, but at the moment cycling just doesn’t give me the buzz that running does. I know that many cyclists will be shaking their head at this! Despite the fact that I’m not hugely enjoying cycling, that doesn’t mean I won’t be doing the triathlon I’ve entered, as most people who know me will know, I’m not a quitter once I’ve set myself a challenge I like to complete it. So it means I will have to incorporate more swimming and cycling into my training so I can improve in these areas.
When I’m driving between meetings and personal training sessions I listen to the radio. As I drive into work ‘Pause for Thought’ is often on Radio 2 which fills me with inspiration and motivation for the day. I was also listening to Classic FM on Wednesday (yes, I know you may not believe it but I do like Classical Music!) and I caught the back end of a story. They were talking about Jack Brabham, a Formula 1 driver, who ran out of fuel during his last lap in the 1959 American Grand Prix. His car spluttered to a halt, but Brabham knew that if he could get it over the finish line he would still have a chance of winning the Grand Prix on points so he pushed it over the finish line, finishing fourth but winning the overall championship by four points.
When I first heard this story I shook my head in disbelief but then it made me think about the extremes that people will go to to achieve what they want in life and how admirable they are for pushing through to achieve their goal, despite what life throws at them.
I love stories like this, when I’m finding a training session tough stories like this motivate me to continue. I know that everyone isn’t driven to succeed to this level, but ultimately most people have a personal goal they are trying to achieve…..so, have you got what it takes? The next time you’re doubting it, remind yourself of stories like the one above and use this as inspiration to show that whatever life throws at you, you can achieve your goals.
