Is Fresh Fruit And Veg Expensive?
A Day In The Life of a PT
Posted on April 25, 2014 by Jenny Cromack
I’m currently working in London with the motive8 team at the moment, so I was here yesterday and then another day at Head Office today before travelling back to Leeds tonight.
My train yesterday was at 7am so that meant a nice early workout at 530am, yesterday morning my workout consisted of 6 x 30sec row intervals, then a 4 x exercise PHA Circuit, repeated x 3, then 6 plyometric intervals then another 4 x exercise PHA Circuit. I felt great after my shower and on the way to London…..definitely a good start to the day. It’s easy to get thrown out your food when your travelling but on Sunday I’d planned all my meals for the week so when I got off the bus near head office I went to the supermarket to gather my supplies to make sure I stuck to being healthy! After my day at the office, I went for a 5 mile run around Bushy Park which is a lovely park to run in, especially at this time of year when it’s nice and light and the deer are out…they look at me like I have no i-deer where I am going which is true (sorry….I couldn’t resist that one!). I’m obviously quite active when I’m in Leeds and as I spend most of my day when I’m in London either sat on the train or in the office I like to go for a run to loosen off the muscles and just feel free basically!
Before I went to bed last night I was reading about how a recent survey by the British Heart Foundation has found that out of 2,444 adults :
– 39% sacrificed health benefits for cost when doing their grocery shopping.
– One in four said they hadn’t bought a single portion of fresh fruit or vegetables in the last week.
– Two thirds said they wanted to eat more healthily, but nearly half of these said cost was a hindrance.
– Many of the people, despite them knowing they were bad for you, relied on ready meals.
I then read the comments about this was (pleasantly) surprised to find out how many people disagreed with this and their overall view was that many people were lazy and used the cost issue as an excuse not to eat healthily. Now, I might be being quite controversial here, but I have a tendency to agree. For those of you who read our blogs you know how much we advocate @marketdelivered and you can get amazing fresh fruit and vegetables delivered to your door, you can get veg boxes delivered for as little as £5 and a family box for £10….these boxes have plenty in and if this isn’t great value for money I don’t know what is! And it’s delivered to you so no excuses about not having time to go to the supermarket! I agree with some critics of the article saying that money isn’t the only issue, some people, they argue, work long hours and don’t have the time. Oh yes, you know what I’m going to say….if your health is important to you then make time! Personally, I think that if something is important to you, such as your health and eating well, people will sacrifice other things in their life to achieve this goal.
What do you think about this? Does anything stop you buying fresh fruit and veg? Is fresh fruit and veg expensive?
So, after reading the article (sorry I went off on one there didn’t I?!) I watched my guilty pleasure of Eastenders and then went to bed. This morning started with another run around Bushy Park….I certainly didn’t feel bright eyed and bushy tailed when I set off but I do now! 1 mile run, 10 x 2 min sprints, 1 min recoveries, 1 mile run! Ooooh those endorphins are now flowing and I’m ready to face another day! Have a good one!
