Fat. Even the word just sounds so negative. But it doesn’t have to be! When I told my client I was going to  write a blog about making fat fun she told me “Kate, fat isn’t fun” – well I’m about to prove her wrong! Here at Motive8 we embrace fat like those swimmers greasing themselves up in it preparing to swim the channel – although in a slightly less messy way! We often blog about which fats to eat, why we need fat, how to burn fat both through food and workouts; and last year we hosted a number of seminars on the topic. So now it’s time to give something extra: some fun facts about fat – and it starts with a little poem.

Good fat and bad fat,
Our diets contain this and that,
Aren’t there any fun facts,
Amongst this nutrition chit chat,
I want to get rid of my belly fat!

Eat this eat that,
Why do I need this body fat,
All these fat nutrition facts,
Shape does matter you crazy cat,
Being lean is where it’s at!

5  Fun Facts About Fat!

  1. You’d be surprised how hard it is to find words that rhyme with Fat
  2. The average adult has over 40 Billion Fat cells in their body
  3. You don’t lose fat cells, you shrink them. Your fat cells are like balloons – they can expand (over 6 times their normal size!) and shrink. If you’re losing weight, you’re shrinking those cells, but they can always be refilled!
  4. According to one website, Fat cells exist in all parts of the body except the eyelids, parts of the oesophagus, the brain and the penis.
  5. Fat comes in different colours! Not quite a rainbow, but we can have brown fat (when stimulated it can burn calories) and white fat (store energy and produce hormones that are then secreted into the bloodstream) – who knew!
