Don’t Hide Your Height!

From experience, I have found that a large majority of tall people have poor posture. When I’ve discussed this with a couple of clients it seems it is because they are very self aware of their height, and often slouch in some way to hide it. Well, I have one thing to say to that- be tall and be proud as this blog is about to demonstrate why you shouldn’t hide your height!
- Leaning On One Leg
Shifting your body weight onto one leg (and you’ll find that you predominantly favour one side above the other) might be comfortable but it’s causing your pelvis all kinds of problems. You’re disengaging your glutes and core and putting excessive load on your lower back and hips. It can cause apparent leg length discrepancy, muscle imbalances in the pelvis, lower back and hip pain, joint displacement and so on.
- Rounded Shoulders & Hunched Back
Slumping in the upper back so that you appear the same height as your colleagues and friends is causing tightness in your shoulders and chest. You’re inadvertently weakening your neck and upper back, disengaging your core (again) and causing restrictions to your airways.
So stand up straight and be proud of your height – your body will thank you!
