Hello, welcome to my first blog about A Day In The Life Of A Personal Trainer.
So, why blog about my job and what I do? A few of my personal training clients have their own blogs which are interesting to read and I thought it would be interesting for people, especially our personal training clients and gym members to find out what personal trainers really get up to!! I think people have a misconception that we are all super-human exercise freaks so here is your chance to find out if that’s the truth!
If your one of our personal training clients in Leeds then don’t worry, I won’t be naming any names….so you’re safe! I don’t want this blog to a minute by minute account of what I do on a day to day basis….that would just be too boring. Instead, as I blog I’ll be write about my own training and nutrional regime (I’m a vegi), I may have a good old ramble about what our team of personal trainers in Leeds have been up to on a day to day basis and I may even rave about the fantastic results we achieve with our personal training clients…..any excuse to show off about the results our amazing clients achieve! As most people know I’m a keen runner and often have tales to tell about my training runs such as getting lost at Eccup Reservoir and ending up on the set of Emmerdale or falling in the ice and nearly knocking myself out on a kerb! So hopefully there will be things to amuse you too and whatever I write you will enjoy.
So….what am I up to today? Well, I’ve been in work since 6am and have already trained two clients….that’s dedication for you! I opened the gym at 6am and Lucy Harrison was already personal training one of her clients and by 6:10am there was a good group of people working out, ready to start their days full of energy and with a smile on their faces knowing they’ve already achieved something in their day at for some people it hasn’t even started!
One of my clients is training for the London Marathon and I am so proud of everything she has achieved so far. When I first started training her she wouldn’t run outside and only ran 5k at a time….now she is up to 14 mile in her training which is a great achievement! How amazing it will be for her to cross the line at 26.2 miles and know that all of her hard work has paid off! I really enjoy her training sessions as I can tailor-make them to be really specific about strengthening run-specific muscles and her core to keep her injury free during her training. The biggest mistakes runners make is not to perform any strength work as they think that running is sufficient to strengthen the legs, but in my opinion runners must perform some specific leg and core strength training at least twice per week to keep injuries at bay. My client is also blogging about her marathon training check out her blog Run of the Roses here.
I’m just about to hit the gym myself now for a lower body and core session – hoping to get a PB on squats and deadlifts today (10 reps)- and then I’ll do a 30 minute interval training session this evening when I finish work at 8:30pm. I love training, and at the moment as much as I love running I’m really enjoying my strength training so looking forward to a good session this morning!
The rest of my day is filled with business meetings or admin work, as motive8 North is my company I like to get my head down and do all my business development and admin work done during the day, and do my personal training sessions early mornings and evenings. I have a great team of 3 personal trainers who work for me, so it’s really important that I keep growing the business so they can progress in their careers.
This evening I’ve got a group PT session which I love doing! Group personal training really seem to be on the up this year and then I’ve got another 1:1 personal training session after that.
So, that’s a brief overview of my day….don’t worry I won’t bore you in minute detail like that in the future but I thought it was a good place to start my first blog!
I am aiming to blog every other day, or more frequently if I can….I hope you enjoy reading it!
Time to hit the gym now!
