Breakfast Biscuits
A Day In The Life of a PT

Hello! Hope you are all well and having a great week, whatever day you are reading this :o)
I went for a run this morning, my plan called for an 8 mile steady state run. I have many routes I can do from the studio but as I’d had a cancellation following a home personal training session this morning I thought I’d do a detour back to the studio and do a run in Roundhay Park and do one of my favourite off-road routes in there. I love Roundhay Park for running, I must admit I think the people who do laps of the lake (and if this is you, I’m sorry!) are crazy….it would drive me to tears in boredom, but there are so many lovely routes through the woods and the hills are great for hill sprints! The nice thing about Roundhay Park is there are always lots of people around so you always feel safe. This morning was no exception, there were dog walkers, groups of kids doing sprints up the steps (I love the steps!, other runners (of course) and a group of mums all exercising – I was very impressed with this group, they didn’t have a personal trainer with them, it just looked like a group of mums (babies there too!) who had decided to meet on a regular basis to exercise together….fair play to them! We have so many great parks in Leeds to exercise in and it’s great to get away from the hustle and bustle of running on the road. So my run went well, however as I was getting closer to my finish point I realised I would be well below my 8 mile target….the lazy side of me said…..go back to the car, get out of this horrible rain….but as I wouldn’t let my clients get away with cutting their session short, then neither would I. So I had to tag on some extra loops until I’d done the 8 miles! The run was pretty good so it was a great feeling when I got back to the car!
As I was driving back to the studio there was an advert on the radio for a certain brand of breakfast biscuits…..promoting their new chocolate flavour and how these ‘biscuits’ have long lasting energy which keep you feeling full. Oh how I love marketing! How can something with chocolate in it, be healthy and since when was chocolate a form of slow release energy?! Yes, I know that the amount of chocolate in there will be a small amount, but I’ve just checked the ingredient list for these biscuits and whilst they do contain slow release carbs in the form of rolled oats they also have sugar, evaporated cane sugar, malt syrup and invert sugar in there……not sounding so healthy now? I wonder why the marketing team for these companies don’t mention this in their adverts……mmmmm! So, yes, I’m on a rant, however, if you are one of our personal training clients at motive8 North I am 100% confident that you would touch one of these as the personal trainers in Leeds would have taught you better and you all know how to start your day properly!
