Bad Nutrition Advice People Believe Part 4 – Everything Is Ok In Moderation

bad nutrition advice

One of the most popular pieces of nutritional advice is ‘everything is okay in moderation’ however with such a high rate of obesity in the UK it is clear it isn’t okay.

For some, the idea is that unhealthy foods are only unhealthy when eaten in excess! So does this mean that a little bit is okay? Can you eat some things in moderation and still class this a healthy diet?

Many people have one food that is their weakness. Some people may say eating a little bit of what you fancy as long as it is in moderation is good for you. But depending on your personality this doesn’t work. For some people , give them a little bit of what they fancy and, they often end up eating the whole lot! Give them a couple of squares of chocolate and before you know it they have scoffed the whole 100g bar! For these people moderation doesn’t work. Instead try temoving these problem foods from your diet is, having those foods around the house, or ‘indulging’ in them in social situations doesn’t do you any good if you eat more than you planned and you’re often left with feelings guilt, frustration and demotivation.

This certainly doesn’t mean you can never eat treats again. But there’s a huge difference between eating a scheduled ‘cheat meal’ , enjoying it and knowing your body and metabolism can handle it, versus struggling to manage the “moderation” and shaming yourself or falling off the wagon.

It is often advised to find alternatives such as swapping chocolate bars for healthy home made protein bars.

Battling with food cravings can often be hard and the answer to many problems is down to structure and routine with eating. If you need more guidance on balancing your food choices then drop me an email or book a nutritional consultation.
