A lot of what we teach in freestyle classes such as HIIT and Boot Camp, is founded on the principles of Circuit Training. It’s a set of exercises looking at strength and stamina, flexibilty and endurance. Each exercise lasts a certain number of reps or time and there is a slight rest before moving on to the next exercise. The number of times you do the circuit is down to the instructor themselves (my personal preference is 3!), but there is always a set goal for what the circuit is trying to achieve which dictates which exercises are used.

I’ve been covering classes again this week – to be honest, it’s nerve racking and exciting all at the same time! This week I did a circuit which mixed cardio and resistance to give it a HIIT feel and to burn calories. I even designed a little warm up circuit as well! Everything is 45secs work with 15 minutes rest – simply because I can’t count – but at least that means that one circuit is only 6 minutes! If you don’t have access to some of this kit i.e. Tyres or Battleropes, do deadlifts instead of the tyre flips and shadow or dumbbell boxing instead of the rope.
