As Personal Trainers we often here people say, I’m training hard but I’m not getting results, what am I doing wrong?
Maybe they have hit a plateau with their goals…they might be half a stone from hitting their weight loss target or maybe they can’t get their running times down or they have stagnated in their quest to build lean muscle mass.
When you’re training hard but not seeing the results you want it’s often down to two factors:
a. Training – are you actually doing the correct type of training to achieve your goals? Are you working hard enough to see the results you want or just plodding along in your conmfort zone? Or, conversely, are you working too hard and overtraining?
b. Diet – Are you eating correctly to achieve your goals? This blog will focus on diet and some factors you may need to consider when thinking about your diet.
We know, if you follow the correct training plan, exercise is a fantastic way to achieve your goals. But to really nail these goals you’ve got to get your diet spot on.
Every individual requires a different diet dependent on various factors such as:
– Lifestyle
– Body Type
– Goals
– Activity Levels
It is extremely important that you fuel your body appropriately, under eating can be just as catastrophic as over eating. It’s also important to know which foods will benefit your goals and those that will cause a set back if over consumed.
To maximise your results it is not only about the type of food you eat but also the timings knowing what to eat and when to eat it to maximise your results can often be very confusing.
A lot of people rely on getting their nutritional information from the internet this can be okay however their is a number of factors to consider
– Is this information from a reliable source? a lot of companies and individuals upload information to ensure you buy more of their product, are you sure that what they are saying is correct.
– Is the information relative to you? Remember everyone is an individual, what works for one person may not work for another!
And what about the calorie debate? How do you know how many calories you should be eating for you and your goals. Come to it, how do you know how much fat, protein or carbs you should be eating.
If you don’t know much about nutrition it really can be a mine field and quite confusing!
