Alex has recently joined the Personal Training team at motive8 team, so we asked him some questions to find out a little more about what makes Alex tick.
What qualifications do you have?
I studied Sport and Exercise Science at Leeds Beckett (Met!) University, during studying there I worked as a cricket coach and gained my Level 2 Strength and Conditioning qualifiation. During my studies I flipped between wanting a job in exercise/health (clinically based) or a job in professional sport. Personal training, in my opinion, comes close to ticking both boxes.
Why did you want to become a personal trainer?
I could never see my self in a ‘normal’ job, when I was younger I always wanted to be a sportsman (Cricket, Tennis or Football), I played all of these sports but as I grew up I found myself more and more interested in the physical training and preparation. Whether for health, exercise or sport, but working in the personal training industry allows me share my love for fitness…for a job!!
What are your hobbies?
Sport! I know its pretty much all I have mentioned so far but I really do live and breath it. I’d much rather be playing, but sometimes watching will have to do. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family.
What is your top training tip?
Make it as fun as possible, there are a million and one variations of a basic exercise – keep changing up your training.
What’s your favourite exercise?
Deadlifts and any variation of them, think they are the king of all exercises. I also like speed and power training.
What’s your least favourite exercise?
Easy, a burpee, i have an irrational hatred for them. Probably due to having done so many throughout my own training. Doesn’t stop me using them for others though, they are a useful exercise….sorry!
How do you like to train?
Honestly I like training on my own in a gym, either early on a morning or late on an evening so it is not too busy. I’ll turn the music up and get it done.
What music do you like to listen to whilst training?
Literally anything with a good beat. I probably enjoy cheesey songs a lot more than I should (Uptown girl – westlife)….
What have you asked Santa for?
A coat! I am off up to Edinburgh for New Years, and I hear its pretty cold and wet up there!
