Hey everyone there has been some great energy in the motive8 gym this September here are our monthly winners and a little bit about them! Well done everyone!
Class Member of the Month
This month class member of the month is Jo Mikos – Awesome effort Jo, well done!
How long have you been attending classes at Marshall Court?
Since May this year, a few days after my 30th birthday. I have been trying to stick to eating healthy for a while now to stay slim, however not doing any exercise was starting to show. This and and upcoming holiday to Ibiza gave me a push to research gyms in the area.
My fiancée and I went for a free trial to a gym in town but we didn’t like the atmosphere and found it hard to motivate ourselves. We also didn’t like how most gyms seemed to want to tie you in to a long-term membership immediately. After doing further research we come across motive8, liked all the different classes and timeslots as well as the option to pay as you go.
We decided to try a Wednesday evening class which back then was with Ieuan. It is fair to say that I was dead after my first class but the atmosphere in the class and a very good night’s sleep made me want to come back. I realise now that exercising is not just good for the body, due to my stressful job I used to struggle with sleep but since I’ve been attending motive8 classes, it’s really improved.
Which classes do you attend?
We try to go 3 times a week between Monday and Thursday. During the summer we missed a few Thursday classes due to alternative arrangements (beer garden!), but now work permitting we try to aim for 3-4 evening classes a week.
What is your favourite class and why?
Monday as it’s a good way to kick off the week and make a clean break from weekend naughtiness.
What is your favourite exercise? And what is your least favourite exercise?
Most favourite are squats as I’m quite good at them and I can really feel difference in my body. Least favourite are push ups, I still have to do them on my knees.
Why do motive8 classes differ from any other classes you have attended?
They have a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s as much about catching up with friends at the classes as it is about getting fit. I remember on our first day everyone was asking our name and introducing themselves.
It’s fair to say that athletic abilities are not my strongest point which stopped me from doing any exercise up until motive8. I’m originally from Poland which meant that I have never come across most of the names and exercises. All of the trainers and other members never made me feel intimidated by my lack of knowledge and everyone’s always more than happy to guide me through things again (and again). These days I still need guidance but that’s because I’m too busy chatting and not listening to instructions properly!
Gym Member of the Month
Matt Webb
Since joining the gym Matt has really got stuck into his training and is certainly a regular. Matt comes to the gym to work hard, whether he is on his own or training with his training partner, Joel, he digs deep and has a great workout! Well done Matt!
How long have you been a member of the motive8 gym?
I joined Motive8 in the second week in July this year, this was after starting a new job only a few minute walk away from Marshall Court. So, to be precise two months and ten days ago!
Why do you train at the motive8 North gym?
I train at Motive8 North because I want to look good, Motive8 North offers me everything I need (and more) in order to achieve this. I have trained at lots of other gyms before, these I have found to be very impersonal which isn’t much fun after a while. At Motive8 I take full advantage of the bulk personal training offer which means both my training program and diet are set out for me.
What was your goal when you started at the gym?
My first goal was to attend as often as possible (4-6 times per week), I wasn’t overly concerned with having the perfect program or having my diet finely tuned. Like anything, I believe doing something until it becomes a habit is the best way to get results. Now, each week I aim to advance one aspect of my training and/or diet so I am always improving.
What is your current goal?
My current goal is to get into ridiculously good shape for my 30th Birthday, this is just 383 days away (yes, I’m still only 28). Don’t ask me why, I just thought it would be cool to focus on something which requires extreme dedication which also offered some other benefits such as health, modelling contacts, etc!
What’s your biggest accomplishment since you have been training?
This has to be consistency! Adding extra weight, improving lift form or doing more reps is great but returning to the gym day after day is the biggest success; there are days when I can think up the most creative excuse not to go but now I actively have to focus myself to take rest days!
