Inspiration During A Great Training Session

A Day In The Life of a PT

Have you ever had one of those training sessions were things just seem to come together….you feel strong, full of energy, your pace is what it should be…..well today was one of those sessions for me.

You might be surprised to hear me say that , I think that many of our personal training clients think we are superhuman…..and whilst, as personal trainers, we may be more motivated than others there are still some times training feels a little bit harder than it should!

My training session today was an 8 mile run which incorporated 60 second intervals. I started the session with a 1 mile warm up, then I sprinted as fast as  I could for 60 seconds, I then recovered at jog pace for 60 seconds, ran at my steady state pace for 2 minutes and then sprinted again. I repeated this x 5, then ran a mile at steady state then repeated the interval pattern for another 5 intervals. It was an amazing session! I love sessions where you feel like you have really pushed yourself, and this session set me up firing on all cylinders for the rest of the day!

On a couple of intervals when my legs were getting tired I used 2 things to inspire me….one was the inspiration from one of my personal training clients who as a challenge this morning had done an 8 minute wall squat. During this challenge you could tell she was ‘hurting’ but she battled through and achieved a wall squat PB! The second inspiration was our very own Lucy Harrison. In September, this crazy lady is flipping a tractor tyre 1000 times for a charity….if she can do that (which will take her hours!) then I can run for a blinking minute as fast as I can. Watch out for more blogs from Lucy in future about this challenge!

So, the next time you’re in a training session think of someone you know who inspires you and let this inspiration keep you motivated!!
