Creating An Exercise Community

A Day In The Life of a PT

Dragon boatLast Saturday the motive8 team and some of our personal training clients took part in the Dragon Boat Race at the Leeds Waterfront Festival. It probably won’t surprise you that as a bunch of personal trainers we are pretty competitive, and some of our clients are too! Last year we placed 3rd and we were looking for a win this year! Sadly this was not to be the case and we came 6th out of 18 teams (have to get that in so it doesn’t look too bad in comparison!)

As personal trainers we are obviously very focused on getting results and if you read our mission statement it talks about being committed to providing the best service to achieve results. However, what our mission statement also says is that we aim to create an ‘exercise community’ where people enjoy exercise and feel like part of a bigger group, an exercise community. As I drove home from the Dragon Boat Race, I reflected back on the day and I didn’t feel sad or angry that we hadn’t won as we would have liked, instead I felt hugely proud about the community and team spirit that we had created and achieved that day and how this shows that we are achieving our goal of creating an ‘exercise community’. The day was full of laughter and smiles, some clients had never met each other before but were chatting like old friends by the end of the day and have commented how it was nice to meet new people, there was friendly banter and competition throughout the day and even some dodgy dancing going on!

Whilst we are focused on getting results with our clients, it is really important that exercise is enjoyable and fun and Saturday proved this can be the case. I’ve talked before in my blog about the overwhelming sense of pride I get when I walk into our studios and see the personal trainers putting their clients or class members through their paces…..but each and every person normally has a smile on their face….ok, maybe not always during the workout but certainly after wards and there always feels like there is a community feel in the studios…..everyone is there for one united reason.

If you were part of the Dragon Boat team or came to watch us…..thank you very much for your support and effort. It was a great day……and yes we were robbed but I’m not going to lose any sleep over it when everyone seemed to have such a good time! Same time, same place, next year!!!
