Meals on the Go!!!
So, you have no time to sit down and eat food let alone cook a meal! Work and family commitments have you rushing around like a lunatic and the shopping hasn’t even been done. How are you supposed to eat healthy meals?
Well we all have hectic schedules whether its running a national company, managing a massive team or looking after the family…. there’s no doubting it, life is busy. But instead of making a run for that bar of chocolate or that biscuit for a quick fix why not grab something nutritious, the hard bit is knowing what to pick and where from!
So on those crazy days when you literally don’t have 5mins to spare here are some options (on a side note everyone has at least 15 minutes spare a day, relaxing time in front of the TV does not count as essential time)
Less than 2 mins to eat
- Bag of carrot batons and hummus, (every supermarket sells them)
- Oat cakes and marmite (most shops, if not there should always be an emergency bag in the cupboard)
- Cooked chicken packs (stay away from ones with dodgy sauces)
- Fruit anything and everything
- Tuna pouch (you’ll find these next to tins, normally mixed with sweet corn and mayonnaise so be careful)
These are grab and go and require no preparation just purchase and consume you don’t even need utensils; thanks to evolution we have opposable thumbs so tuck in.
That extra 60s
When you have that extra little bit of time here are some healthy options:
- A good cereal like shredded wheat or weetabix (not nesquick chocolate boulders). You don’t even need milk just buy a box and snack on them in the car!
- Dip a banana in natural peanut butter; it’s better than it sounds!
- Grapes, berries and natural yoghurt tasty and healthy
- Make a quick sandwich with whatever you have in the fridge! This shouldn’t be a problem as there should always be some lean meat cooked in your fridge for an emergency just like this.
- If all else fails have a protein shake, it’s better than nothing or some rubbish.
The best way to eat healthy if you’re a busy person is preparation; I have touched on this before but just to remind you here are some top tips!
- Divide leftovers into spare portions and freeze in containers. All you need is a microwave.
- Keep a stash of plastic wear and napkins in your car, purse, backpack etc. People have laughed at my glove box in the past but I never go hungry!
- Chop veggies like broccoli and carrots in bags and keep in your backpack, suitcase or purse, they are great raw and very filling.
- Keep a few boiled eggs in the fridge for a quick bit of protein or turn them into egg salads if you have the time.
- Pack a lunchbox the night before of 1500kcal and nibble through the day if there is no chance of sitting down and having a meal
- Keep an emergency supply of some of the foods listed above in your bag
So if you follow these tips there is virtually no obstacle with regards to your nutrition that you cannot overcome. Eating healthy doesn’t require extra effort it just requires a little extra knowledge and some forward thinking. Preparation is key!
